Apple Leans on Google, Microsoft Leans on Humanity, and AI Leans Into Everything
From Siri’s Gemini brain transplant to Microsoft’s “Humanist Superintelligence” and an AI ring that reads your whispers — the future just got weirdly wearable. 💍🧠
👋 Morning, Reader!
The AI world never sleeps — and today’s lineup proves it. Microsoft’s gunning for “Humanist Superintelligence,” Apple’s teaming up with its old rival to save Siri, and ex-Meta designers are turning your thoughts into wearable notes. Yep, it’s that kind of day.
Let’s dive in. 🚀
💡 Microsoft’s Superintelligence, But Make It Human
Suleyman’s vision: build an AI that actually gives a damn about humanity

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman just unveiled the MAI Superintelligence Team, a research division laser-focused on “Humanist Superintelligence.” Instead of chasing open-ended AGI, the team will target specific, high-impact problems — think curing diseases or solving clean energy bottlenecks.
Here’s the breakdown:
The team’s mandate? AI systems that “always work in service of people.”
Early goals include medical superintelligence, AI learning companions, and energy breakthroughs.
Suleyman’s Inflection AI co-founder, Karen Simonyan, joins as Chief Scientist alongside veterans from DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
Microsoft’s split from OpenAI lets both pursue superintelligence — independently, and competitively.
Why it matters:
After years of playing sidekick to OpenAI, Microsoft’s carving its own path. Suleyman’s framing — “humanist AI” — feels like Microsoft’s answer to the question: What if AGI had ethics built in from day one?

🍏 Apple’s Siri Finally Gets Its Brain — From Google
The billion-dollar partnership no one saw coming

Remember when Siri was the future? Yeah… Apple does too.
According to Bloomberg, Apple finalized a $1B-per-year deal to license Google’s Gemini model (1.2 trillion parameters!) for a long-overdue Siri overhaul.
What’s changing:
Gemini will power summarization, reasoning, and planning inside Siri.
All operations run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, keeping your data private.
Apple also tested OpenAI and Anthropic, but Gemini came out on top.
The new Siri could arrive as soon as Spring 2026, but Apple’s building its own internal model in parallel (allegedly).
Why it matters:
Apple’s pride took a backseat to progress. With Gemini doing the heavy lifting, Siri might finally escape the “remind me to buy milk” phase. But if Apple’s still playing catch-up in a year? This partnership may go from temporary… to permanent.
💍 Whisper to Your Ring, and It Whispers Back
Former Meta designers just built an AI ring that reads your thoughts

Meet Stream Ring, a sleek AI wearable from startup Sandbar, founded by ex-Meta designers Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong (of CTRL-Labs fame).
The pitch? A ring that records whispers, turns them into structured notes, and responds in your own synthesized voice.
Here’s how it works:
Touch-sensitive activation (no shouting “Hey Ring!” in public, thankfully).
Built-in microphones detect whispered speech and convert it to text.
Uses ElevenLabs voice tech to talk back using your voice clone.
Costs $249, plus a $10/month sub, shipping in summer 2026.
Why it matters:
Between Humane’s Pin, Rabbit’s R1, and Meta’s Neural Band, the AI wearable race is heating up — and the Stream Ring might just win on simplicity. The ability to think → whisper → act could make this the most natural AI assistant yet.
